I gather from the news that Russia is strictly controlling whatever is broadcast to their citizens and also trying to control social media in the country, all in an effort to mislead everyone there about what is actually going on in the Ukraine. When this dreadful war is over and the Russian soldiers go home surely the truth will out when their version of events is heard, the powers that be can´t gag an entire army.

Lies are common in wartime. The majority of Russians support Putin and the Army know when they join up that they will be expected to fight Ukraine. What of treatment of Chechnya for example?
ReplyDeleteDid the Russian people react that that was awful, is what I mean. The answer to that is no.
DeleteI don´t quite understand your comments, but I don´t believe the majority of Russians support Putin. If they did surely it wouldn´t be necessary for the government to exert such oppressive control over the population.
DeleteMost Russian people do support Putin. They are not party to the tv media output that we see and so they do not form opposition to him. I am not quite sure what you don't understand about my comments. I meant about Chechnya that dreadful atrocities took place there at the hands of Russians under Putin, barbaric things, and yet nothing changed in Russia when the Army came home. Ordinary Russian people live normal day to day lives. I don't know what you mean by oppressive control. We may like to call it that but Russian people live freely, go on holiday and are not oppressed whatever the mainstream media wish to tell us. Of course now that there are sanctions on Russian business from all over the world this freedom will no doubt change economically if nothing else as many people lose their jobs and sources of income caused by the sanctions.
DeleteI think we´ll have to agree to differ. By oppressive control I mean such things as poisoning critics or giving them long prison sentences on dubious charges.
DeleteI took your post as you said it and answered it - about soldiers returning from war.
