Sardines anyone?

 

I love sardines in tomato sauce but these are extra special. The clue is on the label, where it says 'picante'. That means spicy, as in hot. I brought a little supply of them with me back to Brazil.

Who needs a gym?

This must be the longest flight of steps I have ever come down, as well as the steepest. I had to clutch the handrail all the way down. That tiny black shape in front of the light building at the top is a person! I think I would have expired if I had had to walk up.

We did a lot of walking in Lisbon, exploring the older parts including Alfama and the castle, and had some very nice meals. I´ve been there before a couple of times as my father lived and worked there for a while. 

The weather could have been better, although it wasn´t too cold it rained a fair bit, but that didn´t stop us. There were Christmas lights everywhere and some fairs so plenty to see and do.

How to travel in style

 

Traveling with someone who has access to an airport VIP lounge is the way to go. Free drinks and buffet in comfortable surroundings...this must be the largest G and T I´ve ever had! 

Thus started our trip to England for myself, my daughter and my son-in-law, beginning with a 5-day stopover in Lisbon. We had a smooth flight, no airport hassles and stayed in a nice little hotel near the centre. There was time to relax, watch Brazil be eliminated from the World Cup(!) and do some sightseeing and shopping.

This was all last December, of course. I have been most remiss about blogging since I got back home, but life got in the way. I am now doing some 'catch-up' posts, with apologies.

Illusions

 Nearly gave myself a heart attack this morning...it was only just after 6am and I was half-awake when I saw a flying saucer out of my kitchen window! Can you see it?

It is actually a reflection of a light fixture. Took a while for the penny to drop, though.
